Stung! by David Aldred

Stung! by David Aldred An extraordinary first collection that startles and resonates with freshness of imagery and turn of phrase.

A passionate, playful and powerful exploration of identity. Stung! is forty-five poems corresponding to the age of the writer, divided into five sections of nine poems.

The poems deal with a variety of subject matter including love, sex, politics, humour, adoption, death, cookery, therapy, civil war and gender and exhibit a range of poetical forms both traditional and modern.

This collection is by turns comic and poignant and addresses powerful contemporary themes.

She rose early from her white bed
The blood of the sun caught in the sheets
Covers fell away like an Adriatic mist
Bearing the ship of the day.

She rises, draped in a watery gauze, from her bath
We expect to see her rise again tomorrow, and again.
In the early morning there were children to attend to,
Nourished by countenance, to be counted on.
