Writer's Muse

Writer's Muse The Writer's Muse magazine ran, in one guise or another, for five years until it folded in February 2003. Thanks to the work of one of its previous editors, Jim Palmer, and the wonders of WebGuild the magazine will be resurrected at the end of 2004 / beginning of 2005, and will have a whole new, dedicated website at www.writersmuseonline.com. Why not check it out?

Literary Proposition 1 The Literary Proposition was launched in December 1997 under the editorship of Calum Kerr, later Director of CK Publishing.

This magazine came out at irregular intervals over the next couple of years, as the amount of submissions dictated. Finally, the popularity of the magazine enforced a more professional approach, and, under the new name of the Writer's Muse, the magazine became a quarterly publication in June 1999.

Writer's Muse 2 The Writer's Muse then developed from an A4 publication into an A5 magazine, and in May 2000, with issue 5, the magazine started being published every two months instead of quarterley.

The change to the Muse also saw the introduction of original artwork for the covers, including Joyce Timperley's adaptation of our quill motif used on issues 2-5. (Issue 2, left).

Writer's Muse 22 The Writer's Muse carried on for a further 3 years as a bi-monthly publication. With issue 16, Jim Palmer took over from Calum Kerr as the editor, and did a sterling job for a further 6 issues before lack of sales - partly due to the restrictive ordering practices of some of the bigger bookstore chains - and lack of time, forced the magazine to fold.

The final issue, (issue 22, right) was, as usual, a tour de force, with dual editing duties being carried out by both Jim and Calum.

And now, at the time of writing, it has been nearly 18 months since the magazine folded, and new plans are being hatched to resurrect it, in the same form that was known and loved. For more information about Jim Palmer's new Writer's Muse, visit the site at www.writersmuseonline.com.
